Dr. Corprew led a team of our afterschool program directors and instructors through his “Equitable Leader” workshop. The group came out of the workshop with a deeper understanding of the complex equity issues that the students and families that we work with face. In addition, the open dialogue about race and intersectionality helped the team move past some of the tensions they had developed as co-workers and move forward in a more collaborative and supportive environment. We have already scheduled our next workshop!!

It has been my personal privilege and that of Lexington Catholic High School to have formed a professional relationship with Dr. Charles Corprew. His consulting expertise in the areas of improving equity and inclusion were readily apparent throughout the past year. He expertly assisted our school in exploring difficult topics in order to develop a clear, common-sense plan to address areas of concern that are prevalent in society and on all school campuses.  He guided our stakeholder group through introspection, consideration and eventually a collective commitment to making Lexington Catholic a model high school that welcomes and embraces diversity in everything we do.

Perhaps the ultimate compliment to Dr. Corprew is the following. After months of intense, difficult work with our stakeholders group, he emerged a trusted, valued friend to me and our school. We are deeply appreciative of his work, and of the manner in which he led us.

“Dr. Corprew is well-organized, dependable and exceptionally professional.  Above and beyond his professionalism, he is personable and exhibits a level of intuitiveness and insight like no other trainer I have worked with.  Dr. Corprew worked hard to tailor a training to our local needs and studied our culture (Monroe, LA) to ensure a personal touch and that allowed our community to turn our training into an action.”

Charles has run large group sessions on cultural competence for our full faculty as well as smaller groups for our school’s major stakeholders.  With groups large and small, the trainings have been engaging, pertinent, and impeccably organized.  Sessions are designed so that there is deep learning for those who are new to the work as well as for experienced diversity practitioners. Charles’ intellect and his professionalism combine with his relaxed professorial demeanor to put everyone at ease while working on important and challenging topics. Outstanding!

Dr. Corprew’s ability to braid practical application with research is simply brilliant.  Working with him to develop a program curriculum specifically targeting the unique needs of African-American males in high-risk communities was an amazing process.  I was beyond impressed with the ease in which he engaged various stakeholders: program participants, staff, and community partners.  The ability to connect at multiple levels is a skill set that few consultants possess. I look forward to future opportunities to engage the expertise of Dr. Corprew and his team.

Dr. Charles Corprew uses his expansive knowledge of African-American males and the issues they face in schools around the country, as well as his uncanny ability to evoke critical discussion, to facilitate transformative change. Because of this knowledge and his engaging leadership, Charles was able to guide a diverse constituency in recommending solutions that will hopefully revolutionize the lives of all students in Virginia Beach City Public Schools, but particularly African-American males.

Charles delivered a customized presentation for a train-the-trainer event. He tailored the content specifically to the objectives of the event, and hit the mark exactly on the key messages we wanted to get across. He was flexible and cooperative both in designing the presentation and making adjustments during the event. Charles’ presentation style was very engaging, made good use of adult learning techniques, and was a highlight of the day.

When we engaged Dr. Corprew to help us determine the efficacy of our Silverback Society mentoring and manhood training program, I was impressed and grateful for the thoroughness, depth and scope of his study and subsequent report. His interest and previous experiences related to young men and boys led him to answer questions we as an organization had not even known to ask. His report on the impacts of our work has become a powerful asset for raising funds and engaging the volunteers we need to continue to grow our work.
